Hot Stones / Wela Pohaku
"Wela Pohaku or hot stones have been used in Hawaii for hundreds of years to treat the many levels of healing necessary to help restore balance in the mind, body, soul." The use of hot stones with Lomi Lomi is more than laying of stones on the client. It is specific to the individual's needs. The session begins with placing hot stones on the body to begin a deep warming of specific areas and the stones "connecting" with the client. When the muscles have been warmed, the therapist then begins the Lomi Lomi massage using the stones in her hands, a merging of hands and stones. The warm smooth shiny surface of the stone as it penetrates into the muscles no longer feels like a "rock". As the warm stones glide over the muscles, the muscles open more to invite a deeper connection into the muscles, without being invasive. The tension, aches and discomforts "melt away", and a sense of peace, release and comfort sets in.
